Our Mission: At Avishan Garden, we believe that to grow a sustainable future, we need to support the Stewards who tend the land. We believe in growing strong roots. That’s why Avishan Garden isn’t just about plants—it’s about empowering stewards of the land.
The Model: ‘The Head & Hands’ Approach: In horticulture, you need two things to succeed: the knowledge to design (the ‘Head’) and the tools to build (the ‘Hands’). Your program covers both by splitting the year into two distinct ‘Grant Cycles.’ This model works perfectly with the Ontario gardening season.
Ethical Commitment: Our Social Ecology
We believe that a productive urban ecology requires a foundation of mutual respect and shared purpose. Our resources are dedicated to fostering environments that are:
- Radically Inclusive: We stand for diverse collaborations where every voice contributes to the garden’s success.
- Professionally Restorative: We prioritize high standards of conduct that mirror the restorative nature of our ecological work.
- Supportive & Growth-Oriented: We allocate our grant funding toward partnerships defined by transparency, kindness, and a commitment to shared learning.
By focusing our budget on these positive values, we ensure that every Avishan Garden project becomes a sustainable community asset, built on a bedrock of professional and ethical integrity.
‘Equip & Educate’ Alignment Checklist
Before you start your application, please review these core values to ensure your project matches our collaborative spirit:

- Mutual Respect: Are you committed to leading with kindness and professionalism in all project interactions?
- Inclusive Environment: Does your project plan foster a space where diverse voices are heard and valued?
- Resource Integrity: Will the grant funds be used transparently and exclusively for sustainable, ecological growth?
- Restorative Practice: Is your goal to leave the social and physical ecology better than you found it?

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where does the money come from?
A: It comes directly from our sales. 5% of every purchase on Avishan Garden is set aside in our ‘Equip & Educate’ fund. We are a social enterprise, not a registered charity, which means we treat this as a direct business investment in our community.
Q: Can I nominate a friend?
A: Yes! We love nominations. In fact, most of our favorite stories come from friends bragging about the hard-working women in their lives.
Q: Is this only for professional farmers?
A: No. It is for any woman with a serious commitment to stewardship. You could be a horticulture student, a community garden volunteer, or an entrepreneur starting a flower farm. If you are growing roots, you are eligible.
Q: Can I use this grant to dig up my front lawn?
Absolutely. We highly encourage projects that transform turf grass into ‘foodscapes’ or native pollinator patches. If you are ready to trade mowing for growing, we want to help.
